Environmental Commitment
We believe that great technology should also be responsible technology. As a remote-first, cloud-powered company supporting healthcare professionals and educators, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and operating sustainably.
1. Remote first
We are remote first and avoid unnecessary commuting or travel. Most meetings are held remotely, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions while giving our customers faster access to support.
Travel only takes place when there is a clear benefit, and we choose low-carbon options where practical.
2. Minimal printing & sustainable materials
We follow a no-print by default approach:
- documents are shared digitally
- internal processes are entirely paperless
- printed materials for exhibitions are kept to a minimum
When printing is required, we use recycled paper and environmentally certified suppliers.
3. Sustainable cloud hosting
Our services run on Amazon Web Services (AWS). 100% of electricity consumed by Amazon was matched with renewable energy sources in 2024, for the second consecutive year. https://aws.amazon.com/sustainability
Using cloud-native, efficient infrastructure means we avoid operating physical servers and benefit from AWS’s energy-efficient data centres and sustainability initiatives.
4. Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Improval integrates AI to improve productivity and user experience. We are mindful of the environmental impact associated with modern AI systems.
To minimise this impact:
- We use AI only when it provides clear value, avoiding unnecessary or continuous computing.
- We use trusted AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic via AWS Bedrock) that run on highly efficient cloud infrastructure with strong sustainability commitments.
- We keep up-to-date with developments in greener AI and adopt more efficient models and practices as the technology evolves.
5. Sustainable procurement & device lifecycle
We purchase equipment only when needed and prefer devices that are energy-efficient and long-lasting.
When hardware reaches end of life, it is securely wiped and recycled through certified channels.
We keep promotional items to a minimum and choose them carefully.
When attending conferences or events, we may provide small items such as pens where they offer real value to attendees. We commit to selecting more environmentally responsible options wherever possible and will continue to review and improve the sustainability of all future promotional materials.
6. Minimal waste
As a digital-first business, our waste output is extremely low. We avoid unnecessary materials, store documents electronically, and recycle old equipment responsibly.
7. Continuous improvement
Environmental responsibility is an ongoing commitment.
We review our practices regularly and continue to explore ways to reduce our carbon footprint, including:
- cloud efficiency improvements
- more sustainable travel planning
- adopting new eco-friendly technologies
- evaluating the environmental impact of emerging AI tools
